Lookup methodology and understanding results
Step-by-step lookup
- Read the name, manufacturer and codes on the packaging. Scan the barcode or choose the correct code type: registration number, declaration number or GTIN.
- When searching with a partial name or code, select the correct product from the suggestions. Compare the manufacturer and identifiers; a similar name alone is not enough.
- Enter the batch number and expiry date if available. An alert may apply only to certain batches.
- Read the reason, scope and original document. Check whether the alert has been replaced, lifted or followed by a newer notice.
Understanding the results
- Matching alert found
- The lookup details meet the matching conditions for the stated product or batch. Read the measures and source before taking action.
- Batch number needed
- An alert exists for the product, but there is not enough information to determine whether your batch is affected.
- Batch not listed
- The entered batch is not among those extracted by VPSA. This does not certify that batch as safe.
- Scope unspecified
- The available data does not establish the batch scope. Do not assume that all batches are affected.
- Possible match
- This is a suggestion for further comparison, not confirmation that your product is affected.
- No matching alert found / product not identified
- VPSA has not found a matching alert in its current data or has not identified the product. Try the full code, another name on the packaging and the original sources.
Example: batch scope
Illustrative example: a notice names only batch A01. Packaging showing A02 with the same product name is not enough to establish that it falls under that alert. Leaving the batch field blank is also not enough to conclude that the product is unaffected.
A barcode helps identify a product; it does not prove authenticity or quality. VPSA does not replace professional advice. For prescribed medicines, consult a doctor or pharmacist about the specific alert.
